On October 10, 2018, a new stage of the project in the field of mediation was launched – the National Court-Annexed Mediation Service, managed by the Mediation Center of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the Mediation Council and with the assistance of the Center for Efficient Dispute Resolution of the UK (CEDR).
The project is a step forward in strengthening the mediation institution in the Republic of Moldova, which will fortify the mediation throughout the republic and educate the population, in the advantage of an alternative conflict resolution procedure.
State Secretary Eduard Serbenco, present at the event, spoke about the wider context of the stages of the project of mediation and arbitration in the Republic of Moldova: “The objective of the project is a noble one, the further popularization and development of the institution of mediation, which consists in solving in a nonconflict way the litigation through the mediator and without the parties confronting the courts. The project aims to strengthen mediation in the Republic of Moldova, capitalizing on their advantages “.
“We are pursuing citizens’ information about the mediation service. We take on the experience of other countries, where mediation has great success and the experience of Great Britain. We have interviews and statistics of large companies that are very satisfied with mediating for confidentiality and speed and low costs”, said Felicia Chifa, chairman of the Mediation Council.
The activities to be carried out within the project phase are aimed to create an efficient system of interaction of the courts with the Mediation Center of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova by directing the causes to be solved by its mediators. The litigants will be able to independently choose the mediator who will constantly communicate to the court the progress of the mediation process and the final outcome.
